The cities jointly and literally buried a hatchet in the park as a symbol of an end to their mutual competition. It is located halfway between the cities of Tacoma and Seattle. Saltwater State Park is an 88-acre marine camping park with 1,445 feet of saltwater shoreline on Puget Sound.
Walks along the undeveloped lake shore are peaceful and give many opportunities for nature study, including the chance to see bald eagles, otters, and other animals. Saint Edward State Park is a 316-acre day-use park with 3,000 feet of freshwater shoreline on Lake Washington.
